Just think of the potential danger with a programmer only seeking to harm some of your files. You could lose your priceless family pictures, letters, your work or documents. They can be gone in an instant without any chance of you to get it back.

With the programmers who seek you out for money, then you can really have problems. Once your identity is stolen, then the real problems occur. Someone can falsify an identification with your social security number and other information on it, take out a loan and never paying it. This leaves you with the bill and dealing with the creditor to sort out what happened. This can last for months or even years. During such time, your life is on hold because no one will loan you money.
